Reports To: Project Support Coordinator
Position Type: Full-Time/Part-Time/Temporary
Salary: 16 – 20$ Per Hour
Job Summary: The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for providing high-quality, individualized support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The role involves assisting clients with daily living activities, promoting their independence, and ensuring their well-being in a compassionate and respectful manner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Personal Care and Daily Living Support:
- Assist clients with personal hygiene, grooming, and other daily living tasks as needed.
- Help with meal preparation and feeding, ensuring nutritional needs are met.
- Support clients in maintaining a clean and organized living environment.
- Community Integration and Socialization:
- Facilitate and accompany clients to community activities, social events, and appointments.
- Encourage and support clients in building and maintaining social relationships.
- Promote community involvement and integration by identifying and accessing appropriate resources.
- Health and Safety:
- Monitor and report changes in clients’ physical and emotional health.
- Administer medications as prescribed and maintain accurate medication records.
- Implement and follow safety protocols to ensure the well-being of clients and staff.
- Behavioral Support and Skill Development:
- Assist clients in developing and maintaining life skills, including communication, social interaction, and problem-solving.
- Implement individualized support plans and behavioral interventions as required.
- Track and document clients’ progress and achievements.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of clients’ activities, progress, and incidents.
- Prepare and submit reports and documentation as required by regulatory agencies and organizational policies.
- Collaboration and Teamwork:
- Work closely with other professionals, including case managers, healthcare providers, and family members.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of individualized support plans.
- Professional Development:
- Engage in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Stay informed about best practices and changes in the field of direct support.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional relevant certifications or coursework preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities or in a related field is preferred but not required.
- Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle challenging behaviors with patience and empathy.
- Basic knowledge of first aid and emergency procedures.
- Proficiency in record-keeping and documentation.
- Certifications: CPR/First Aid certification and other relevant certifications may be required or preferred.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and assist clients as needed, and perform tasks that may involve physical exertion.
Working Conditions:
- Work may be performed in various settings, including clients’ homes, community locations, and healthcare facilities.
- Flexibility in work hours may be required, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
